I have a 20 amp Cutler-Hammer Type BR120 circuit breaker on my electrical heat tracing sister. Problem: the circuit breaker trips as soon a power is applied. The breaker cannot cope with the initial high current requirements of the electrical tracing (positive temperature coefficient). Once the tracing reaches equilibrium the normal current flow is 11 1/2 amps. Question: What is the correct circuit breaker for this application? Regards, Jim Fugitt
The correct Circuit breaker required would be calculated as follows : 11.5Amps times 200% which would be 23amps I would go with a Cutler Hammer BR125 (25 amp breaker) and you should be good to go.
